Staircase Options When Constructing a New Home

Constructing a multi storeyed home means having to incorporate a staircase into the design. The most common option that people tend to go for are the straight style staircases. These are the conventional single set of stairs that comes shaped in an L. Due to its easy installation, it is a popular choice for contractors and homeowners alike. However, over the years, the range of designs for staircases has rapidly increased. With increased creativity comes the use of a myriad of materials incorporated into the design of staircases Thus, you do not have to settle for an average staircase when you have the chance to make your home as unique as you would want it to be. Here are some of the different staircase options that you could consider when constructing a new home.

Spiral staircase

If you have limited space when constructing your home, you can choose to incorporate a spiral staircase into its design. This type of staircase can easily be constructed at the corner of the room, thus enabling it to rise straight into the upper level without having to take up much floor space. Additionally, since spiral staircases do not cut across the room, you do not have to worry about having to create a functional space beneath them.

Freestanding staircase

As the name suggests, this type of staircase give an illusion of floating on air. More so if you opt to have the staircase from glass. It is best suited for homeowners who would like a modern feel to their homes as they are quite new age. A freestanding staircase is typically erected right in the middle of your room of choice. It should be noted though that freestanding staircases rarely come with balustrading, hence they may not be a good option for homeowners with toddlers in the home. The balustrading tends to take away from their floating illusion thus is not a feature that is incorporated with these types of stairs.

Open under staircase

This type of staircase resembles freestanding stairs with the main difference being one of the sides of the open under staircase is adjacent to the wall. Thus, only one end will have the floating illusion, as it will be open, with the other end providing support to hold on to in the form of a wall. Open under staircase tend to give the illusion of space in a room hence are best for homeowners who are looking to make the most of their floor space. Since the steps are freestanding, you have the chance of utilising the space under the stairs for whatever you choose, for example as a reading nook, a play area and more.
